Description Job Title: Director of Finance Job Area: Administrative Office Department: Finance and Management Information Systems Reports To: President and General Manager About Windham: Founded in 1960, Windham Mountain Resort is the premier outdoor lifestyle destination in the Catskills offering year-round activities including skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, golf, entertainment and special events. Windham boasts an incredible mountain offering with 97% snowmaking on 54 trails over 285 skiable acres in addition to its off-mountain entertainment, food and beverage, lodging, and home management operations. With the support of an experienced management team and an active investor group, the company is on a multi-year development plan that seeks to reimagine the mountain resort experience and build upon its standing traditions of excellent guest service, family fun, and sustainability. Overview of Position: The Windham management team leads an exciting and dynamic business which has multiple segments and seasonal demands. All key employees are both leaders and doers with a unified focus on delivering a high-quality guest experience. The team's success hinges on their ability to plan, analyze and effectively execute the various activities on and off the mountain. The Director of Finance plays a vital role in this management process and the role requires a passionate, hands-on leader with high integrity and a commitment to advancing the organization. The Director of Finance reports directly to the President/General Manager on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget and cashflow management, cost benefit analysis, and financial planning and forecasting. As a member of senior management, this position participates in setting broad organizational goals, objectives, processes and policies, particularly in the area of financial management. This individual will directly supervise the Finance Department and oversee all accounting and finance activities such as financial reporting, business analysis, forecasting and long-term strategic planning, and auditing. While the emphasis of this role is Finance, this individual has responsibilities spanning a breadth of staff functions and requires an someone who is both strategic and tactical. Success will be defined by ability to become an integral member of the senior leadership team. Job Qualifications: 10+ years of experience in senior level finance or accounting roles such as Treasurer, VP of Finance, Corporate Development, or Chief Financial Officer. An advanced degree such as an MBA, CFA or CPA is preferred. Experience in a senior financial management role within a sophisticated and complex retail environment. Experience in increasingly responsible financial positions encompassing a broad range of managerial roles. Strong accounting background including preparing financial statements, creating a set of books, making all necessary journal entries and skill in presenting information to company President/GM and owners. Experience with, and/or understanding of, IT systems and functions. Must be well organized, attentive to details, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Superior leadership, management and interpersonal skills with a strong team player orientation. Excellent communications skills and ability to develop rapport and credibility across the organization High-energy with a motivation to take on challenges A sincere passion or interest in the winter resort environment (i.e. skiing or snowboarding). Must be willing and able to devote the time and energy needed to successfully manage a busy, seasonally intensive calendar. Must be versatile and adapt easily to varied job assignments. Job Duties: The list below best represents many tasks you will be asked to perform at some time during your employment here at Windham Mountain however other duties may also be assigned as needed. Manage and supervise all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting. Assess and report on business performance through financial analysis. Oversee financial policies and procedures for the accurate and consistent recording and reporting of all financial matters including budgeting, external financial reporting, internal financial reporting, capital funds tracking, project cost accounting, project and operational performance analysis, periodic reports, and internal cost studies. Prepare and interpret financial statements and reports for leadership team, Board of Directors and lenders, and ensure timely reporting of all information; support preparation of quarterly Board of Directors presentation materials Serve as both a financial and a business advisor to the CEO and other members of the leadership team Ensure that effective financial, administrative and operational controls are in place to support current business needs and future growth. Initiate and maintain relationships with major lenders and other providers of capital. Ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization's needs including management of Company's line of credit. Train and mentor the Finance Unit and relevant staff, especially on awareness and knowledge of financial management matters. Become a business partner to all department heads and provide support, advice and business suggestions As directed by the General Manager, design and implement financial analysis and efficiency reviews of specific areas of the company and make recommendations regarding how to improve them utilizing industry benchmarks for departmental performance analysis. Quickly assess changes in the business environment; anticipate problems and develop solutions in a timely fashion. Manage relationships with third parties such as Lenders, Insurance Brokers, Bank Contacts and Independent Public Accounting Firms. Ensure adequate controls are installed and that substantiating documentation is approved and available such that all purchases may pass independent and governmental audits. Oversee the company's annual audit and tax reporting processes.
