Optum is seeking an experienced Actuarial expert who can leverage their broad and diverse Actuarial experience to lead Client engagements and staff in the execution of a variety of strategic, actuarial, and consulting activities. You'll have the opportunity to lead visible consulting engagements focused on Medicaid and Dual-Eligible populations within Optum's broader Advisory Services team. This role will establish, maintain, and own relationships with payer clients and execute against projects around various Actuarial products/services, as well as other Optum healthcare offerings relevant to their business needs.. This role requires the development and ownership of relationships with payer clients and both technical and professional leadership of Actuarial Managers and staff in the delivery of best in class Actuarial and other strategic consulting services to clients. This role also requires the desire and ability to meet collaborative sales targets. The role requires an ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the healthcare organization, technical and non-technical staff, and an ability to develop strong client relationships through credible industry knowledge, and relevant expert strategic advice to the payer community.. You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.. Primary Responsibilities:. Strategic, Client-facing and technical leadership on projects primarily around government programs (Medicaid), actuarial solution development, and broader analytical initiatives. Lead teams to deliver timely and business relevant results across multiple work streams while maintaining actuarial process standards and controls. Deliver expert strategic actuarial advice to clients with the goal of ensuring long-term profitable growth. Lead the design and development of actuarial solutions (models and processes). Contribute to growth goals of the practice as a part of the broader team. Required Qualifications:. Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science or related discipline. 10+ years of healthcare actuarial experience across multiple lines of business. 5+ years in a Client facing role managing complex, actuarial projects. 3+ years in an leadership capacity responsible for end to end management over a project/initiative and/or leadership and ownership of a Client engagement. Experience influencing, motivating, and driving others in a positive, constructive, and respectful way. Expert knowledge of key actuarial processes of pricing, reserving, and analytics. Ability to speak credibly to current industry issues, regulatory and competitive challenges, and practices regarding the government services market. Proven problem solving skills (identification of issue, causes, solution, implementation plan). Willingness and desire to actively develop and pursue opportunities to develop business. Ability to travel as needed (generally in the range of 10%). Preferred Qualifications:. Experience with advanced predictive analytics / machine learning. Intellectual curiosity - ability and willingness to learn new actuarial concepts. Experience with Medicare and/or Medicaid. Experience working in a Consulting environment. Careers with Optum.
