The Cost Accountant is a critical member of the company's core operations team and will apply cost accounting principles to ensure the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of raw material purchase orders, inventory asset tracking and assignment to finished goods products for sale. The Cost Accountant will have a high level of engagement with the sales and manufacturing teams to ensure purchased raw materials are correctly recorded in the company's manufacturing system (Fishbowl), bill of materials are accurate for sold goods and that transactions automatically transferred to the Quickbooks financial accounting system are reconciled. The Cost Accountant will assist in physical inventories and the preparation of financial reports in compliance with US GAAP, financial and operational audits, as well as analyzing financial information, and providing subject matter expertise to other departments for accounting related transactions.

Required Experience

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in accounting and three or more years of job related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and/or ABILITY • Strong US GAAP knowledge • Cost accounting/manufacturing background and experience • Experience as a superuser of a manufacturing/supply chain/accounting system. • Intermediate Excel skills to export data from source systems and use v-lookup and pivot tables to summarize and analyze information. • Intermediate level analytical skills, experience analyzing manufacturing inventory. • Self-starter, ability to perform tasks with minimum supervision • Detail oriented, highly organized and possess the ability to prioritize with good time management and to meet deadlines working in a cross functional team environment • Effective organizational, oral and written communication skills • Ability to make basic accounting judgement and instruct correct process flow to non-accounting members • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity • Ability to execute and follow-through to completion and documentation • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

Job Requirements

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing tasks to compile financial statements accurately and on time as a team, including collecting and analyzing data, preparing and posting adjusting journal entries, reconciling inventory and related balance sheet accounts, and preparing other assigned schedules and reports.
    • Assist in the completion of monthly, quarterly and annual financial packages by due date.
    • Provide cost accounting thought leadership by analyzing account variances, understanding and communicating root causes and identifying costing issues and recommending corrective measures.
    • Gather data and prepare production analysis reports, and work together with production team for issue resolution and incremental improvement.
    • Understand the Fishbowl manufacturing software and integration with Quickbooks; review and examine errors between systems.
    • Assist with royalty transactions to ensure accuracy.
    • Support financial and tax audits.
    • Purchasing and sales transaction review for accounting accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Knowledge transfer to team members to improve their skills/knowledge.
    • Participate in problem solving activities and incremental improvement initiatives.
    • Assist other departments and leads to resolve inventory accounting and other reconciliations.
    • Ensure punctual attendance per defined work schedule and comply with the attendance policy for time reporting, break periods, and overtime if applicable.
