This position will work as part of a team in support of warm water sport fisheries and aquatic native species conservation in the South Platte and North Fork Republican River Basins. This position will assist the aquatic biologist with standardized sampling of ponds, lakes, reservoirs, streams, and rivers.
Primary duties include sampling sport fish and native fish populations, performing fish population estimates, performing presence/absence surveys, performing fish salvage operations, measuring and installing habitat, mapping lakes, assisting in spawn-taking operations, stocking fish, performing chemical reclamation, maintaining equipment and facilities, and performing data entry and analysis.
Technician must be willing to travel and work in inclement weather. Some late night and weekend work is required.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
REQUIREMENTS: Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have a current and valid drivers' license for operating a state vehicle. Must be willing and able to work some nights and weekends which may involve working during inclement weather. Successful completion and passing of background screening may be required for placement in this position. Preference will be given to applicants with or working towards a degree in fisheries or wildlife biology or management Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with fish sampling techniques, fisheries sampling equipment, operating and/or working from boats, and fish identification skills
