This position is funded in part by the Youth Internship Program and as an Intern you will be working in a variety of settings and department sections to get an in depth view of what you can expect from different full time staff positions with Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

This program requires you to be a current student or a recent graduate (within 3 years)

This position will provide help in the operation and maintenance of the Cherokee State Wildlife Areas. They will provide assistance with habitat management projects such as: water developments for wildlife, inter-seeding hay meadows, timber thinning, irrigation of hay meadows, monitoring grazing operation, and weed management on range lands.

This intern will also provide help with equipment maintenance on farm tractors, hay balers, ATV/UTV's, trailers, and weed spraying tanks. Other day-to-day chores include cleaning restrooms, fixing and repairing over 50 miles of fence, cleaning camp grounds, and maintaining 8 miles of dirt roads accessed by public users. This intern will also have opportunities to experience occasional days with fish and big game biologists for fish netting, bighorn sheep counts, etc.Other duties as assigned.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.
  • Successful completion and passing of background screening may be required for placement in this position.
  • Strong desire to work in the field of natural resource management and wildlife habitat improvement
  • Must be able to lift 50-80 lbs repeatedly
  • Must be willing and able to work varied hours in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of equipment and under vehicles/trailers
  • A background in farming/ranching is desirable but not required.
  • This program requires you to be a current student or a recent graduate (within 3 years)
