Job Responsibilities

Conducts and assists with management activities for Region 1 Heritage Preserves. Assists biologists with state-wide game and non-game wildlife surveys in Region 1. Assists manager with rare plant surveys on Region 1 Heritage Preserve properties. Performs other related duties, as requested, in cooperation and with other WFF and LE staff. This work will vary with need but may include assisting in unloading materials, installing or repairing gates and transporting supplies. Maintains all Department-issued equipment. Completes all mandatory reporting (mileage forms, SCEIS, procurement card reports, monthly activity reports) in a prompt manner. Schedules,arranges and coordinates at least one volunteer workday on a Region 1 Natural Area Heritage Preserve.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and two (2) years of experience in wildlife or fisheries work or an associate degree in the technical sciences.

Ability to obtain a South Carolina Pesticide Applicator license.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to lift heavy objects and operate a chainsaw, 4WD vehicle winch and power tools. Ability to operate agricultural and heavy equipment andto identify and handle game/non-game fauna and native/non-native flora. Experience with a GPS and computer applications that include Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint is desirable. Ability to work alone under challenging conditions. Ability to communicate effectively with the public. Good record keeping skills and ability to work with volunteers.
