FUNCTION:. The primary responsibilities of the Director of Finance are to:. Assist the Executive Director in all day to-day financial operations of Pet Alliance.. Maintain the efficient operation of the accounting system, 401k and financial affairs of the organization.. Serve as staff liaison to the Board Treasurer and to the Audit/Investment Committee. RESPONSIBILITIES:. Develop, implement, manage and update financial management protocols to safeguard the financial affairs of the Agency. Verify all cash, receipts, deposits and bank charges. Record in appropriate journals and registers. Post to general ledger. Ensure accurate coding of revenue and expense items. Ensure all deposits are made in a timely and accurate basis. Manage and verify Petty Cash. Process incoming bills and verify for payment. Enter information into accounting software. Prepare monthly financial statements, balance sheets and other financial reports as needed. Prepare and handle taxes and related reports. Working with Executive Director, monitor budget estimates to support compliance with annual budget and preparation of budget for following year. Reconcile bank and investment statements. Transfer investment funds to general account as approved.. Working with designated accounting firm, support the preparation of the annual audit and the 990. Review contracts and leases.. Manage related payouts, reports and paperwork associated with 401k plan. Verify, prepare, renew and complete insurance, workers' compensation, state, and federal updates, licenses, permits, audits and reports in a timely fashion. Maintain cleanliness of assigned work area. Maintain dress code and proper attitude at all times. Attend staff meetings and training as required. Perform other office duties as required to meet the needs of the organization. QUALIFICATIONS:. College degree with a specialization in accounting preferred. Five to seven years relevant and progressively responsible work experience. Demonstrated knowledge of various computerized accounting systems. Reliable transportation and valid drivers license with good driving record required. Direct access by phone required. Must successfully pass a criminal background check. Credit check may also be required.. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:. Highly motivated toward the welfare and humane treatment of all animals. Demonstrated ability to learn tasks readily. Demonstrated ability to apply good judgment in making decisions in accordance with organizational policies and procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of bookkeeping, accounting, auditing, and financial administration. Ability to work well with limited supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work well with others. Ability to prepare financial reports. Computer literate. Time management skills that would enable the successful scheduling and accomplishing of many concurrent demands. Professional manner, voice and appearance. Agreement to support Pet Alliance policies and procedures. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:. The physical demands of the job require sitting for extended periods of time, regularly using the computer for word processing, data entry and data evaluation, and preparing financial and other reports. Math and writing skills critical. WORKING CONDITIONS:. Work is primarily performed in the business offices. It is an open and well-lighted, adequately ventilated, but noisy and somewhat distracting environment. The job requires moving between rooms and buildings and traveling off-site for banking transactions, which may result in increased exposure to extremes in temperature. Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the Pet Alliance determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.. Job involves frequent staff contact as well as protracted concentration under conditions that can be described as fast paced, on a routine basis and occasionally stressful..
