This position is responsible for financial control of diverse and complex general ledger accounts for the entire organization, including subsidiaries, maintaining compliance with generally accepted accounting standards and internal policies and procedures with the goal of minimizing losses. In addition, this position is responsible for monitoring the reporting between the organization and its subsidiaries to ensure appropriate accounting between the organizations.

Principal Responsibilities:
Prevents and minimizes losses through diligent financial control and reconciliation of diverse and assigned general ledger accounts, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies to maintain financial reporting that is reasonable and appropriate. Reconciles the monthly closing of assigned subsidiaries general ledger with the parent, ensuring subsidiary balances and all transactions and transfers of payments for payroll, expenses and taxes between subsidiaries and the organization are properly recorded. Ensures that all agreements between the subsidiaries and the parent are read, understood and complied with.

Identifies and communicates financial control accounting issues throughout the organization, including subsidiaries, to management and within the division. Performs follow up when needed and formally documents the status of outstanding items to proactively resolve issues that may result in loss to the organization.

Maintains procedure documentation on reconciled accounts, evaluates them to ensure relevancy to current practices, and eliminates gaps to bolster internal training processes and to meet internal standards on contingency planning and disaster preparedness. Monitors current procedures to ensure they support the efficient operation of the group.

Builds and solidifies working relationships with branches, operational areas and subsidiaries by researching inquiries received on posted general ledger transactions. Provides direction in resolving balancing problems and solutions in clearing differences.

Acts as a resource for and provides guidance to junior staff members as needed.

Performs the following responsibilities, as volume dictates, to support other staff members : verifies processed data, prepares online system set-up, communicates end-of-day requirements in validating completion, guides the execution of subsequent general ledger close and prepares
daily accounting journals and manually inputs financial data into the ledger system.

Education/Experience Requirements

College degree or equivalent work experience.
2-5 years relevant experience.

Behavioral/Technical Skills:
Mastery of accounting principles and procedures, including subsidiary and consolidation accounting and internal corporate and subsidiary accounting policies, procedures, operations and products.

Excellent PC skills including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and internal mainframes and software.

Excellent analytical skills are needed to identify important issues.

Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external contacts to resolve problems.

Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Strong written and verbal skills are needed to communicate effectively with customers and document effectively.

Strong ability to provide advice and guidance on accounting issues to junior staff members and employees throughout the organization.
