Position Description: The Jr. Royalty Accountant is primarily responsible for: the timely processing of royalty advances and payments for all Macmillan Imprints; the preparation/maintenance of the monthly payments register, in Excel, used as the primary source for General Ledger entries and preparation of the internal author advance payments report. Other major responsibilities include calculation of royalty accruals, true-ups, General Ledger to royalty sub-ledger reconciliations. Provides yearly tax reporting support to authors and agents.
Major Responsibilities: Advances & Royalty payments processing for all payment types for all imprints. Includes data entry, and accounting for Tax withholding and payment deductions. Run the payments preparation processes for checks and coordinate the process for electronic payments with the Manager of Royalty Processing and the Treasury Dept. Coordinate the check printing process and ensure check payments are handled in accordance with Company policy. Process payments cancellations/voids and re-issues. Maintain detailed monthly payments register in Excel for all payment types. Assign proper General Ledger coding to each payment transaction. Prepare monthly royalty earnings accruals for assigned imprints in accordance with financial reporting requirements and deadlines. Prepare actual to accrual royalty earnings comparison (true-up) schedules, in accordance with the divisions reporting cycles/periods (e.g. semi-annual, quarterly). Provide timely relevant royalty rates analyses and accurate variance explanations for review and distribution to Business Manager(s). Prepare timely schedule/analysis for royalties payable to calculate the advances recouped amount/adjustment for the imprints assigned and the related royalty reporting periods. Prepare timely general ledger to sub-ledger reconciliations for assigned imprints. Prepare timely journal entries for supervisors review and input to the general ledger, in accordance with financial reporting requirements and deadlines. Prepare timely general ledger to sub-ledger reconciliations based on the royalty reporting periods for the imprints assigned. Provide yearly author tax reporting support.

Experience Needed: Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience, with advances/royalty payments processing in a computerized environment, preferably in the book publishing industry.
