The Holland America Group is currently searching for a highlymotivatedDirector, Financial Reporting & AccountingPolicies. The Director, Financial Reporting & AccountingPolicies is a key member of Holland America Groups AccountingLeadership Team and will provide dedicated support for Holland America Groupsfour cruise brands with 42 ships and land hospitality and tour operations. Thisincludes primarily the day-to-day management of department staff, processes,systems and financial controls involved in the companys financial reportingprocess. In addition, this position ischarged with leading accounting policy assessments and transaction support. The role requires a broad level ofcommunication and leadership at all levels with a wide range of external andinternal stakeholders.

This position will report to the Holland AmericaGroup SVP/Controller, will regularly interact with brand and group FP&A andCFOs, and will be located at our office in Seattle, WA.


A successful candidate will bededicated to ensuring accuracy and relevance of financial reporting; exhibitsrelentless curiosity in learning about our operations and the cruise industry; ispassionate about understanding root causes and finding new solutions; anddelivers actionable insights into financial trends, risks and opportunities asthey emerge in the companys financial statements.

  • Sets long-term strategy for Holland America Groups financial reporting function
  • Oversees and proactively leads the preparation and distribution of periodic group reporting packages, internal financial statements, and ad-hoc reporting
  • Drives action to improve existing accounting controls and business processes in a pragmatic, cost-effective way
  • Directs and develops highly skilled team through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and disciplines
  • Ensures consistent quality control over financial statements and accounting processes, including performing critical reviews of financial trends and variance analyses
  • Identifies and pursues opportunities that drive operational efficiency, including simplification, rationalization and automation
  • Supports operational accounting teams through development of customized close schedules and reporting that helps visualize trends and highlights and potential outliers requiring further analysis
  • Oversees special projects to align Holland America Groups reporting processes with changes in accounting standards, reporting structure, and parent company requirements
  • Leads group-wide accounting policy compliance and alignment efforts and acts as liaison to parent company shared service policy experts
  • Tracks financial performance and delivers insights into causes of period-to-period variances, underlying causes and emerging trends, risks and opportunities
  • Maintains and evolves internal controls and proactively ensures SOX compliance for area of responsibility
  • Proactively tracks and reviews significant accounting estimates and underlying support and drives detailed, risk-based reviews of balance sheet accounts and account reconciliations
  • Communicates and coordinates across departments to ensure appropriate change management, including alignment on financial process and control requirement, and completion of systems and user testing
  • Builds a strong team and leadership succession by retaining, developing and hiring top talent
  • Identifies and ensures department resource needs are met, and manages payroll and T&E expenditure within plan
  • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in a variety of financial accounting roles; CPA and prior Big 4 audit and SEC reporting experience highly desired
  • 5+ years of demonstrated management experience
  • Expertise in technical financial accounting under US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); additional prior IFRS experience a plus
  • Awareness and understanding of the SOX compliance practices and requirements
  • Experience in maintaining and evolving financial processes and controls
  • Familiarity with large computerized accounting and ERP systems; Oracle a plus
  • Analytical and detail oriented
  • Mature communication, leadership, and inter-personal skills
