We also work to raise awareness with the public, and government, business and civic leaders about the needs of the Chicano/Latino community in the United States.


POSITION SUMMARY

To fulfill its mission, El Centro de la Raza provides comprehensive, culturally competent education and counseling services to individuals seeking homeownership, homeowners, renters, and those who wish to have a better grasp and understanding of their finances. The Homeownership Specialist will work to strengthen the capacity of Latino families, especially Firs Mobile Home Community, manage and augment their household finances and credit to ameliorate the effects of debt and poor financial management.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Work specifically with Firs Mobile Home Community and others participants:

  • Provide housing information in a group setting including but not limited to the following: Financial Literacy Workshops, Rental Workshops and Pre-Purchase Homebuyer Workshops.
  • Work with participants on a one-on-one basis to deliver Financial Management, Budget, and Credit Counseling tailored to each participant s unique circumstances.
  • Keep communication between Forterra Organization and Firs Mobile Home Community in order to clarify down payment assistance, applications and all the purchase process.
  • Assistance to the participants in order to work with different Lenders and Real State depends of each personal situation.
  • Develop and assist participants with action plans to reduce debt, improve credit, increase savings, and become banked; while complying with contract requirements and outcomes.
  • Conduct one-on-one assessments with every participant to gauge their full financial situation and define one or more financial short, intermediate and long-term goals.
  • Coordinate the Lending Circle Program, in collaboration with the Mission Asset Fund in order to improve the credit situation.
  • Manage outcomes, compliance and reporting for multiple funding sources including but not limited to Firs Mobile Home.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Essential minimum skills, education, and experience:

  • Commitment to mission, respect for the work of our nonprofit partners, commitment to providing exemplary service to our participants.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with internal and external staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant work experience, with some background in finance, financial education, counseling/coaching, or social service delivery.
  • Experience in financial services, social work, financial planning, coaching/mentoring, teaching, or other related fields.
  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with internal and external staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Previous experience working in a multicultural environment with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Previous experience in public speaking and group presentations.
  • Previous experience working with individuals in one-on-one counseling settings.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt quickly as program needs evolve.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite applications.
  • Availability to travel locally, statewide, and nationally including occasional overnights and weekends.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings as program delivery dictates.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with multiple responsibilities
  • Knowledge of internet-based client management systems, particularly Salesforce and CounselorMax.


WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week. The Homeownership Specialist must be available to work flexible hours (evening and Saturdays) to accommodate the needs of participants. The Homeownership Specialist may be required to travel locally to meet with partners, facilitate workshops in community, etc. The Homeownership Specialist generally works in an office environment in two location: Beacon Hill and Federal Way.
