PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Manage the U.S. State Function including: State Income and Franchise Taxes State Sales/Use Taxes Centrally Assessed and Locally Assessed Property Taxes Miscellaneous tax filings State audits in the above areas Account reconciliations Tax Planning Internal Controls Federal Excise Tax Audits Tax Research Stay current on tax law changes and proposed changes
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES: Responsible for State Income Tax and Franchise Tax Compliance – including audits; Responsible for Sales and Use Tax Compliance – including audits; Responsible for Tax Research in all areas; Responsible for appropriate and timely estimated tax payments; Responsible for Property Tax Compliance and State Valuations; Responsible for Account Reconciliations and maintenance; Responsible for Annual Budgets; Responsible for Internal Controls in accordance with CP policies and Sarbanes Oxley; Responsible for Tax Planning Projects; Other Duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors Degree in Accounting with a minimum of 5 years experience highly preferred; CPA and/or Masters degree in taxation preferred; Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws; Knowledge of railroad operations and terminology is beneficial; Experience and working ability to use tax preparation software; Proficiency with Microsoft Office; Strong tax research skills; SAP knowledge and experience helpful; Ability to analyze problems and situations and formulate logical and objective conclusions using good judgment; Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues.
