Overall purpose of role To define the global audit plan for the Equities segment and the regional audit plan for Markets in the US. To set the overall coverage strategy for these areas and ensure it contributes to the overall BIA effort. Lead the US Markets audit team in the delivery of the audit plan.
Key Accountabilities Define appropriate coverage strategy and audit plan, taking into consideration the Audit Risk Appetite, the current and expected business environment, the regulatory requirements and the resourcing levels within the Function Establish strong relationships with senior leadership using superior influencing and negotiation skills to ensure audit reports are delivered successfully and proactively contribute to the risk and control environment of that business Lead discussions with senior leaders regarding audit observations and issues, consulting with colleagues across BIA where required. Act in an advisory capacity without undermining the independence of the function to ensure client and customer viewpoints are considered in decision making and recommendations Build a deep understanding of the strategy of each business area of the organisation responsible for which may impact the audit plan, including social/economic/technological trends in all client and customer groups; drive team to pursue similar understanding Assign audit and line management responsibilities, providing direction and guidance to direct reports while maintaining an in-depth knowledge of activities in each area Guide, review and approve work carried out on audit assignments to ensure the scope of work is appropriate, controls are correctly identified, assessed and carried out in accordance with BIA Methodology, policies, professional standards and budget Apply interpretative thinking to enable problem solving in complex and sensitive situations; act as point of escalation for audit team where senior leadership is required Escalate to relevant BIA Management Team member and executive management where appropriate, critical control and risk management issues, weaknesses or irregularities of material significance in the existence of application of controls Oversee the production of concise and insightful commentary and information for BIA wide and BI reporting, e.g. Group Controls Committee/Subsidiary Audit Committee/Board Audit Committee. Set standard for exceptional reporting and ensure team members deliver against this Promote a culture of efficiency through use of expert knowledge, agile and automated auditing techniques and commercial drivers to focus and deliver the audit plan and support the BIA strategic direction Deputise for relevant MT member as required e.g. at Business Unit, Regional or function G&CC or relevant legal entity SACs.

Decision-making and Problem Solving Function as a respected and independent voice, attending relevant governance meetings and providing key risk and control insights and challenge. Ability to devise a comprehensive audit plan that provides management a very strong third line of defence coverage. Work with senior business stakeholders to ensure appropriate alignment of the strategic plan to enable a seamless approach to governance, risk and control. Qualitative and quantitative measures of audit deliverables. Colleague recruitment, retention and transformation (particularly D&I and EE related initiatives).
Risk and Control Objective Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
Person Specification Basic Qualifications: College degree or international equivalent 13 + years of risk based auditing experience, or similar experience within a Risk & Control function within an investment bank 5+ years of experience in the Equities Market (within an Audit or Risk and Control function) 10+ years of experience managing a team Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. CIA, MIIA, ACCA, CISA)
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships with Executive Management, Regulators and other key stakeholders Strong analytical, decision-making and problem solving skills Ability to think and operate in an enterprise wide capacity, contributing to the main effort of the function over the demands of individual silos Evidence of driving change, leading business initiatives and setting direction and strategy
