This position is responsible for assisting the Chief Accounting Officer in certain duties within Avangrid Group reporting, technical accounting, internal controls (SOX) and corporate accounting. This involves interaction with each of these areas and direct involvement in new accounting matters and unique transactions in relation to project management and accounting conclusions. Reporting for Avangrid is required in accordance with US GAAP through required filings with the SEC and in accordance with Iberdrola Group Accounting Policies (IFRS) within the intercompany forms for Iberdrola s global external reporting.
Accounting results include both regulated and non-regulated business affiliates in the Power and Utilities industry that are consolidated within the Avangrid Group. Subsidiary consolidated financial statements are also prepared by the departments. A high amount of time will be spent in coordinating with external and internal audits and strong relationships will be required.
This position will have no direct reports however will assist with various activities with the departments of Consolidations/Reporting, Internal Controls, Corporate Accounting and Technical Accounting, as well across the business accounting teams.
MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of work - range of responsibilities):
Project manage and determine impacts of complex operations and transactions in US GAAP and IFRS financial
statements. Work closely with the external and internal auditors to ensure timely and successful resolution audit procedures and audit matters in all areas. Work closely with the business and other corporate control teams to prepare and determine appropriate accounting policies. Ensure accurate reporting by assisting in challenging variances and unusual items in monthly P&L and key performance indicators and coordinating with AGR Subsidiary Accounting Teams and across departments (tax, regulatory, etc.) to resolve issues. Independent view of US GAAP and IFRS financial statements and its disclosures.
Requirements JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience required A minimum of seven years in accounting/auditing Accounting or financial experience in a management role required Experience in preparation or audit of financial statements required SEC accounting, reporting and disclosure experience required. Significant experience with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and internal controls of financial reporting required
Public accounting/auditing firm experience
Detailed knowledge of US GAAP required Knowledge of power and/or utility accounting preferred Knowledge of IFRS accounting standards preferred Knowledge of FERC accounting standards preferred Strong leadership skills required Strong project management skills required Strong analytical and problem solving ability required Strong communication skills, both verbal and written required
