We hire the best people, so we can deliver the best solutions.Due to a growing book of business, we are looking for an exceptional SVP, Lawyers' & Accountants' Professional Liability (LPL & APL) to join our team and work in our Chicago or New York office. This position will report to the President of Argo Pro and is responsible for developing business and providing strategic guidance and direction to underwriting, in all regions, regarding business development and promoting profitable underwriting results.So what's it like to work on the Argo Pro Underwriting team? In this customer facing and customer focused role you will:* Establish and communicate underwriting profit goals and other measurements including loss ratio, new business development, policy count, account retention, and expanding distribution relationships* Managing a portfolio of lawyers' and accountants' professional liability business including primary and excess, on an admitted and non-admitted basis.* Identify and manage broker relationships.* Participate in the recruitment and selection process to ensure the organization has the necessary talent to accomplish business goals.* Cultivate and maintain relationships within and outside Argo Group to develop and drive new business opportunities. Work with internal and external business units to develop joint business plans, value propositions and cross-marketing programs.* Have established reinsurance relationships as well as maintain and enhance the existing reinsurance relationships.* Represent the company at networking functions and other industry-related events that present and promote departmental initiatives to other external constituencies as appropriate.* Monthly review of profit and loss statements by BU (monthly).* Cultivate and maintain relationships within and outside Argo Group to develop and drive new business opportunities.* Develop and maintain effective relationships with distribution community at a senior level. Add tangible value to the composition of our current distribution platform.* Collaborate with internal and external business units to develop joint business plans, value propositions and cross-marketing programs.* Promote an environment that encourages self-motivation, teamwork and collaboration.* Act as a role model demonstrating belief in, and commitment to, the aspiration values of Argo Group, continuing to build and lead a value-based organization committed to long-term success.* Other duties as assigned.What will you need to be successful here?* Bachelor's degree and 15 years industry experience.* RPLU and/or CPCU designation* Proven leadership capabilities with a sound influence in dealing with challenging situations.* Demonstrates strong ability to partner with finance, actuarial, IT and marketing resources.* Demonstrates significant contribution to underwriting profit.* Independent decision maker - takes full responsibility for making decisions and consequences associated with decisions.* Recognized as a leader within the organization that provides advice and guidance to others.* Demonstrates knowledge of the lawyers' and accountants' professional liability external market and contributes to the development of business strategy.* Have established relationships within the lawyers' and accountants' professional liability community with external clients and professional network.* Continually seeks opportunities for portfolio growth and potential agent opportunities.* Effective oral and written communication, including influence and negotiation skills.* Experience in delivering presentations to all internal and external audiences.* Proven employee development, mentoring, coaching and performance management skills.* Proficient in the use of computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.* Demonstrated strong negotiation skills, achieving favorable outcomes in win/win negotiations.* We work in a fast-paced environment that is evolving constantly; so flexibility and the ability to thrive in change are important to be successful here.
