Who we are looking for:

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has an exciting opportunity for a highly-motivated and mid-level Financial Reporting Manager to have a key role in preparing, organizing, and gathering and accurately reporting financial information required for monthly and annual financial statements, annual audit, tax returns, indirect cost rate development, grant reporting, bank covenants, and cash management. The selected candidate will also collaborate with the Director of Finance with activities to keep ASCO compliant with regulations and contract obligations and participate in special projects and initiatives.

What you will do:

  • Design and prepare for review the monthly internal and annual external consolidated and stand-alone financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Reconcile intercompany accounts and prepare consolidating entries
  • Analyze balance sheet account variances and trends
  • Be the organization’s GAAP expert; conduct research and develop adoption methods for new FASB rulings; and assure that financial information is compliant with GAAP, government regulations (tax, grant, etc.), and best practices for not for profit organization
  • Prepare for review, Form 990, Form 990-T, sales tax, property tax, and other tax filings; and establish tracking systems for gathering data needed for tax returns
  • Prepare reports required under bank covenants
  • Track and report for federal, industry, and foundation grants; and develop and maintain direct and indirect cost rates and cost allocation models
  • Participate with special projects and partner and delegate to team members as needed


Job Requirements:

What you will need in order to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, CPA highly preferred
  • At least 4 years’ plus of related work experience in Finance including work in not-for-profit organizations
  • Experience with preparing financial statements, with not-profits being a plus
  • Familiarity with GAAP
  • Knowledge of recent and upcoming new guidance from FASB
  • Strong financial systems experience and expert Excel experience
  • Comfort with adapting to new technology
  • Strong oral, interpersonal, and written (including PowerPoint) communication skills
  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, strong planner, and good business judgment
  • Entrepreneurial spirit – ability to work on a task independently and see it through to completion
  • Comfort in a fast-paced and collaborative work environment including working with outside consultants/firms

Ideal candidates will also contribute:

  • Experience with tax reporting for not for profit organizations
  • Experience preparing tax returns for a multi-entity not-for-profit entity including 990s and 990-Ts
