Position Summary

U.S. Financial Planning & Analytics

The Location

Columbus, GA

As part of the U.S. Financial Planning and Analysis team, creates, reviews, and analyzes budgets for assigned business units; ensures expenses are managed within their approved budgets; advises assigned groups on compliance, regulatory policies and requirements related to budgets


Responsibilities (Principal Duties and Responsibilities)

Serves as point of contact for business units; acts as a department liaison and a financial liaison for internal departments; assists assigned groups with budget software and technical issues; provides system training for office staff as needed

Monitors actual expenses and provides variance explanations for significant differences between actual expenses and the budget/forecast; reviews and analyzes budget expenses for compliance and regulatory issues; corrects account and budget center postings; prepares, reviews, and reconciles event expenses; advises about availability of funds and proper usage of funds

Assists in the development of budgets and reviews for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with established procedures, regulations, and organizational objectives

Prepares monthly forecasts; prepares month to date, quarter to date, and year to date variance explanations; conducts meetings with leaders of assigned groups to discuss and review budget reports; provides recommendations for reclassification of expenses and variances

May track, audit and analyze incentive fund expenses; provides advice about availability of funds and eligible expenses for incentive funds

Develops and provides appropriate reports and metrics to support informed decision making

Provides support for senior analysts and consultants for special projects

Performs other related duties as assigned


Qualifications (Education & Experience and Job Knowledge & Skills)

Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Mathematics or a related field, and Two years of work-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Financial services and/or insurance industry experience (Preferred)

Job Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of budgeting and expense management

Proficient in Microsoft Office with intermediate skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other federal regulations relative to Sales Financial issues, state insurance department statutes, and other state regulations

Excellent analytical skills

Understanding of business fundamentals and an understanding of quantitative business-based analysis and metrics

Knowledge of accounting procedures and familiarity with IRS regulations

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with management, internal, and external customers
